Assistant or Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, Pathologist, on clinician scholar pathway with an approximate 50:50 contribution to clinical service and academic pursuits.

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP), School of Medicine at the UW. This position would have an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30]. The primary appointment will be in the Clinical Research Division of Fred Hutch. The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in anatomic pathology/clinical pathology, with an expertise in hematopathology with interest and experience in pathology related to stem cell transplant and immunotherapy. Based on qualifications, this position could entail a leadership role as medical director of a laboratory location. Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve the delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.

Anticipated Start Date: FY23 (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023)

The ideal candidate should have a record of and primary interest in the field of pathology and biology of one or more hematological malignancies as well as an active clinical research interest, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrable interest and expertise in genomics and precision oncology diagnostics in hematological malignancies is preferred.

Applicants must have an MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and be American Board of Pathology eligible or certified in anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (or foreign equivalent). Fellowship training in hematopathology (or foreign equivalent) is required. Additional fellowship training in molecular pathology, surgical pathology, and/or gastrointestinal pathology is desired. Applicants need to be eligible for unrestricted licensure in the state of Washington and a faculty appointment at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

In order to be eligible for Fred Hutch or University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
