| Prof. Maurilio Ponzoni President EA4HP Dear EA4HP Members, friends and distinguished colleagues of EA4HP, I would like to thank everybody for the endorsement and my appointment as President of our association. I clearly recognize my task will not be fulfilled without your invaluable help and, therefore, I take this position with great humbleness and enthusiasm.Almost one year ago, we celebrated the great success of our EA4HP-SH meeting in Dubrovnik, and I profit to thank and congratulate our past-President, Professor Stefan Dirnhofer, the local host Organizer, Professor Ana Dotlic, and the entire Exco for this great achievement. This second edition of hybrid-meeting in the history of our association was attended in person by 686 delegates and remotely by 177 members with a total of 863 participants. Even more amazing, the meeting was attended by an impressive number of colleagues coming, other than many European Countries, from America, Asia, Oceania and Africa. The excellent program included outstanding lectures and wonderful cases both during Bone Marrow/Lymphoma Workshop and Symposia. The Karl Lennert Lecture medal, an invaluable recognition for our community, has been conferred to Professor Stefano Pileri for his own sustained and increasingly innovative contributions to the field of hematopathology. Professor Pileri demonstrated across his professional life how it is possible to conjugate the traditional morphological analysis with the most sophisticated molecular techniques to effectively approach haematopathological diagnosis. This example represents a model for everybody and for young haematopathologists approaching to our discipline. These activities were blended with the wonderful venue and relaxing social program. The friendly presence of MCI staff, our CPO, ensured its support in contributing to the success of the meeting. Another important aspect of our association relies on its educational activity. Since Dubrovnik, three EA4HP webinars have been organized and focused on Castleman Disease, a seminar shared with ECP in the honor of Professor HK Muller Hermelink, and one dealing with marginal zone lymphomas, respectively. These webinars, organized and moderated by excellent colleagues, were very well attended. Last September, our association was actively attending the European Congress in Pathology, held in Vienna. The contribution of EA4HP relied on one symposium on novel mechanisms in lymphoma and their diagnostic implications, one slide seminar on Castleman disease, and one short course on the landscape of atypical and indolent proliferations. In addition, EA4HP delegates delivered many important lectures at the SOLAHP (Latin American congress of haematopathology), held in Antigua, Guatemala. In addition, the vibrant component of our association, represented by young EA4HP (yEA4HP), currently coordinated by Doctor Leonie Frauenfeld, was very active as well. Beyond organizing in Dubrovnik an interesting Satellite Symposium on Spatial biology approach to neoplastic hematology, yEA4HP coordinated also one of the 4 online webinars of the EA4HP focusing on cutaneous lymphoproliferations, further supporting education and exchange within the community. Together with current EA4HP Exco, we recently organized our virtual General Assembly to fulfill some administrative passages. I take the chance to thank our Past and Present Treasurers (Professor Birgitta Sander and Professor Thomas Tousseyn, respectively) as well as our Past and Present Scientific Secretary (Professor John Goodlad and Professor Laurence De Leval, respectively). While congratulating with Professor Goodlad for his new appointment as President-elect, I express my personal gratitude to Professor Stefan Dirnhofer for his own proximity, endless support and inspiration. I want also to thank past and current Presidents of SH, namely Professor Robert Hasserjian and Professor Carlos Bueso-Ramos as well as Professor Alex Tzankov as well as Professor Leonie Saft as the past and current Presidents of the European Bone Marrow Working Group (EBMWG). Without these distinguished colleagues, EA4HP would never be so efficient in serving its members! It is time now to move forward to our next meeting, which will be held in Berlin next October, 3-8, 2026. The program is quite exciting and will cover the microenvironment in lymphoma and lymphoproliferations as well as the artificial intelligence in bone marrow diagnostics and myeloid neoplasm classification. I strongly invite you to visit our web page for important deadlines for case submissions. Last but not least, a very important update is that last June, October and during this month, Drs. Robert Hasserjian, Stefan Dirnhofer, Carlos Bueso-Ramos and myself regularly met with Dr. Joseph Khoury, Chair of the WHO Classification of Tumours Standing Editorial Board. It is our pleasure to inform you that a Classification Advancement Meeting will be held on March 18-20, 2026, hosted by Dr. Dan Arber at the University of Chicago. Given the close proximity, I profit to wish all of you, your families as well as your colleagues my very best season’ greeting. Next year, which is just around the corner, will be so important for our association and the worldwide haematopathological community as well. On behalf of the Board of the European Association for Haematopathology. Warmest regards, Maurilio Ponzoni |
